Charlie’s life purpose is to inspire and connect others to achieve extraordinary things.
After attending the U.S. Air Force Academy, Charlie served five years as an intelligence officer before being appointed to the prestigious White House Fellows program. After earning an MPA from the University of Oklahoma and a J.D. from Columbia Law School, Charlie founded and later sold Sterling Financial, an investment bank and wealth management firm with sixty offices in eight countries (the international operations are now a part of UBS).
He has worked under five U.S. Presidents from both parties. President Barack Obama appointed him to chair a board consisting of four U.S. Senators, four Congressmen, and seven presidential appointments to oversee all operations at the Air Force Academy. He was awarded the Distinguished Public Service Medal by the Secretary of the Air Force, who credited him with leading “a historic transformation.” He also served four years on the seven-member Florida State Board of Education, where he oversaw the state’s $15 billion budget and drew up the blueprint for dramatic, sustained improvement in literacy and graduation rates for Hispanic students.
Charlie funnels his passion for people, education, and empowerment through board and chair service at nonprofits, like Junior Achievement USA, 3DE Schools, the Girl Scouts of America, and peer-membership groups, like YPO and TIGER 21, where he was twice named “Chair of the Year.” He has written two bestselling books on leadership, A Message from Garcia and Leadership Lessons of the White House Fellows. Charlie’s many academic achievements include a 2019 Fellowship at Harvard’s Advanced Leadership Initiative and his appointment as a lecturer at MIT’s Israel Lab at the Sloan School of Management MBA program.
Charlie sees R360 as the ideal platform for his passion and purpose: finding ways to connect highly talented individuals and their families to the people, resources, and experiences that create tremendous value for themselves and the planet.
Michael Cole has helped thousands of families integrate the management of their wealth with its impact, blending strategic and tactical planning that preserves both financial resources and family harmony, resulting in multi-generational success.
At just 35 years old, Michael was named President of Merrill Lynch Trust. He then created the ultra-high-net-worth platform Abbot Downing at Wells Fargo and the multi-family office Ascent Private Capital Management at U.S. Bank.
Most recently, he was CEO at Cresset, a wealth management firm where he built client assets from $2 billion to $10 billion in less than two years.
In each endeavor, Michael pushed the industry in new directions better aligned with his clients' changing needs and desires. His experience inspired him to write the bestselling and critically acclaimed book, More Than Money, A Guide to Sustaining Wealth and Preserving the Family.
R360 is the logical progression in Michael’s work and the ideal opportunity to marry his professional philosophy and personal aspirations: helping people with significant resources do great things so that they and he can better the world today and for generations to come.
The best-known form of capital, Financial Capital includes a family’s cash, bonds, public and private securities, real estate holdings, commodities, and other assets.
Intellectual Capital consists of knowledge (e.g., artistic, cultural, professional, political) as well as a family’s means of acquiring it, such as their cognitive habits and learning style.
Social Capital describes a family’s role within its local community, broader society, and the world. It also includes the nature and strength of that family’s relationships with one another.
Human Capital refers to the overall strength and wellbeing of one’s family: its members’ leadership potential; opportunities; and awareness of and commitment to personal purpose.
Emotional Capital measures a family’s collective capacity to moderate emotion, embrace challenge and risk, resolve conflict constructively, assume responsibility for actions, and approach each day as a welcome adventure.
Spiritual Capital is a measure of progress in each family’s search for meaning and purpose in life. Distinct from religious belief (though faith may contribute to Spiritual Capital), Spiritual Capital facilitates the development and articulation of life purpose consistent with a family’s values and aspirations.
